Welcome to Crickhowell

Walk out of The Bear Hotel and take a stroll down Crickhowell’s award winning High Street, winning Best High Street in UK in 2019. Take time to explore its unique family-run businesses and boutique shops.

In the Usk Valley

Walk a few minutes downhill, and you’ll reach the River Usk – one of the finest brown trout fisheries in Britain.

Take a gentle amble along the towpath of the Monmouth and Brecon Canal to watch the boats go by. Take some time out and appreciate the unique qualities of our historic town.

The heart of The Brecon Beacons

We’re surrounded by the beautiful Usk Valley and the finest Monmouthshire countryside. You can join the Usk Valley Walk from Crickhowell, which runs North from Caerleon, through Abergavenny, on its way to Brecon.

Those with a keen eye might even spot some rare local flora and fauna, including Falcons, Otters and Kingfishers. The Bear was awarded Silver in The Great Outdoors Magazine Awards Best Walkers Pub Category 2019. When you visit us, you’ll know why.
